TAKASAGO and Prof. Ohkuma (Hokkaido University) have co-published a paper entitled " Asymmetric Hydrogenation of α-Amino Esters into Optically Active β-Amino Alcohols through Dynamic Kinetic Resolution Catalyzed by Ruthenabicyclic Complexes " in Organic Letters.

We report a method for the synthesis of optically active β-amino alcohols with our ruthenium catalyst (RUCY^®). Chiral β-amino alcohols have been frequently utilized in the synthesis of a wide variety of bioactive compounds. Enantioenriched products were obtained from racemic α-amino esters through dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR). This reaction could be applied to substrates with various functional groups with low catalyst loading.
